In the historic district of Brera, at the corner of Via Mercato and Via Arco, tradition meets contemporary design in a Milanese building of understated elegance.

The building on Via Arco 2, dating back to the early 1900s, has been renovated with slightly lighter tones and a specular angular decoration on the opposite side of the block, giving the building a new charm and uniformity with its surroundings. The aim of the facade intervention on both Via Arco and Via Mercato is to preserve and enhance the original structure, construction and perceptual features that characterise it, as well as its morphological, typological and material qualities. Consideration of the building’s original stylistic and material characteristics has been the basis for consistent choices regarding materials and finishes.

Existing decorative elements and types of doors and windows have been preserved. The introduced interventions regarding decorations and colours respect the characteristics of the building and are considered improvements for the value and visual and aesthetic impact of the building itself. The main entrance is from Via Arco 2, where access to the building has been renewed by an entrance door in burnished steel and glass that allows glimpses of the interior spaces of the common atrium from the street.

In the courtyard, to evoke the flavour of Milanese courtyards of ring-shaped houses, all balconies are aligned vertically and framed by a unique and light iron structure painted with colours that match the wall-mounted lighting fixtures designed specifically for the project. The structure is used to grow climbing vegetation.
