The installation project is part of the temporary exhibition “Side Effects – Effetti Collaterali”, curated by Luca Molinari and conceived to start a close dialogue between three photographers – Olivo Barbieri, Francesco Jodice, Armin Linke – and as many designers: Alessandro Scandurra, Cliostraat and Stalker.

For Olivo Barbieri’s shots, Alessandro Scandurra follows the flow of the dense urban texture documented by the photographer in China since the late 80s, creating a vision tool dominated mainly by light.

The space designed by Alessandro Scandurra is defined by a narrow passage that welcomes the public into the exhibition hall immersed in darkness. A system of suspended cylinders, interlocking vertical panels and the glossy and matt black colour of the walls close in the environment, enhancing the presence of urban images.

Thanks to sensors that reveal the presence of the passer-by, the lights from weakly yellow become white for 15 seconds, materialising Olivo Barbieri’s photographs in their entirety and maximising the moment of discovery.

In a blinding glow, the shots of the photographer from Modena show themselves to the visitor’s eye and then are sucked back into the twilight. In this continuous and changing trend, Barbieri’s work imposes the only condition for tuning in: slowing down.
