On the occasion of the 60th edition of the Milan Design Week, LIFE is the site-specific installation created by iGuzzini Illuminazione to be placed in front of the portal of the Hall of the Aula Magna of the University of Milan.

The artwork presents itself as a luminous canopy on top of which the word LIFE is written in large block letters, an ode to life and rebirth. With a system of dimmable lights, LIFE represents a gateway to a possible “enlightenment”: a propelling space of continuous and vital changes.

The installation is made with a metal and transparent polycarbonate structure, composed of 650 dimmable LED bulbs with a Dali system and 160 linear meters of low-voltage LED neon tube, also dimmable with Dali. The average energy consumption is only 2.5 Kw/h per day.

LIFE is the entrance to a space of light, a threshold, an invitation to participate in a continuous spectacle animated by moving lights. It aims to be a stage of continuous rebirth, a space to cross capable of generating and regenerating a constant cycle called life.

“It wasn’t completely dark, the rain was stopping, it was almost morning, and the luminous writings kept on talking; a theatre said ‘LIFE’ while a dripping sound was ending, a mechanism was stopping, and another was about to restart. A new day, a new beginning.”
